Having trouble with your RENASYS GO device? Follow these troubleshooting guidelines below for help.
The RENASYS GO device has an unpleasant smell
- The action of bacteria in the canister can produce odour in the pump exhaust. The extent to which this happens depends greatly upon the nature of the wound and bacteria present. If a strong odour is allowed to be drawn through the pump for many hours, the odour filters in the pump will be overwhelmed and the pump itself will start to absorb odour. Then the pump will emit an odour even when the pump is not connected to a wound.
-
The best cause of action to avoid this situation is as follows:
- As soon and any odour is detected, change both the odour filters in the GO pump and change the canister (irrespective of the amount of fluid in the canister)
- Try to position the GO pump vertically (hanging from the straps) as this minimises odour entering the pump
- Instigate regular canister and odour filter changes

- If a GO pump has absorbed so much odour that even when not connected to a wound, an offensive smell is emitted in the exhaust, S&N can offer a deodorising treatment.
